Ombudsmen and Professional Bodies

Making a complaint to a professional body

Complaint Handling with Professional Bodies and Ombudsmen

If you are looking to make a complaint to an organisation, it is worth checking whether they are a member of an ombudsman or professional body providing a complaint handling service. There are many public and private ombudsmen and membership organisations. Their role is to review complaints and make decisions in respect of a complaint against their member.

These organisations are neutral and will not take sides. You may need to supply evidence and paperwork for them to review. They will perform an adjudicative role if needed (to make a decision) or support you with managing the complaint. There are some restrictions on eligibility to use their services so ensure that you check with the organisation whether your matter is something they can handle.
